Hocks & angulation

One good way to understand correct rear structure is to think about typical deviations. Some deviations are shown below and represent from left to right an over-angulated rear, a straight rear with a flat croup, and an over-angulated rear with sickle hocks and a steep croup.

In the center illustration, we see the straight stifle clearly observed, but in a number of cases, the point of the hock is well defined and angled away (behind) from the straight line we see in the above illustration. When this occurs, it can create the illusion of a set back hock and with it, better angulation, but in fact, it is just an anomaly and does not change the straight structure of the femur-tibia interplay, with little or no bend at the knee.

We have show Lina at the In. Mastiff Special Show in Milano and She was win Best of Breed , was her first time .... we haven't many time for dogs show ..
We love her type and substance , she is 220lbs with exc. proportion .

Well it looks as though a Dogo has given the Mastiff name a black eye once again!

In my humble view, anyone rescuing any dog, should be wearing a face mask protector, as any dog under stress can easily bite the party trying to help them.

DENVER (CBS4) A dog who was rescued from icy waters in Lakewood on Monday bit KUSAs Kyle Dyer on the face on Wednesday morning, sending the TV news anchor to the hospital.

The incident happened during the My20 morning news broadcast on KTVD, which is owned by KUSA.

The dog, whose name is Max, was detained by animal control officers after the incident, according to a co-worker of Dyer.

Dyer was described as being in fair condition at the hospital a few hours later.

The dog is a white 86 pound Argentine Mastiff. He ran onto the ice at Smith Reservoir near Kipling and Jewell apparently after seeing a coyote and chasing after it.

Copter4 captured images of the dog stuck in the water at about 5:20 p.m. Max was swimming around but he was surrounded by ice.

A few minutes later a member of the West Metro Fire ice rescue team who was attached to a rope crawled out on the ice, grabbed Max and he and the animal were pulled to safety.

We attended the Wildwood NJ show this past weekend and although my girls only won their classes, we had a wonderful time! There was a professional pet photographer there and she did great getting pictures of my girls and my kids. I will have the actual photos in about 2 weeks but I thought I would share some photos of the shoot.... and a few of the girls on the beach for the first time

how smart are mastiffs?

I think they are smart dogs. We couldn't figure out how Storm got things out of our
closets. We just thought we forgot to close the closet doors. Then I happened to
catch him in the act. He first head butts the closet door and then swings his head
towards the left, pushing the door open. Then he helps himself to whatever he wants.

Tonight, my husband left the lever to the gate handle up an inch. Storm just took his nose, flipped the lever up, head butted the gate and walked right through.

I think we are in trouble. What do you dogs do?

Thyroid screening

I had a thyroid screening done on Dixie today, no reason for it other than I have seen it suggested here several times. Dr said the low end of normal is 1.1 hers is 1.0 so its low.

I'm not sure what this means. Plan on having a detailed conversation with the vet in the morning but until then what can you guys tell me about this?

Have a lovely friend looking to connect with some good breeders to add another mastiff to the family. Right now just looking to connect ( no litters right now necessary) she is willing to travel anywhere for the right pup but she is located in VA. I think she is looking for some breeders to start with and decide when the timing is right.

Im going to give her a few names I know of but...any suggestions would be great. Thanks so much!

We've been owned by mastiffs since the mid 90's but recently acquired a female who has me perplexed. We rescued her from a bad situation a few months ago and spent considerable effort getting her healthy and used to being loved. She was flea ridden, probably abused and had worms out the wazoo. She's still somewhat skittish but she's the sweetest companion you'll ever meet. I was given a pedigree when I got her but judging by her appearance, her breeding seems questionable. No matter, we love her just the same! She's been given a clean bill of health but she's definitely on the thin side. (a little over a year old) Normally this wouldn't bother me since the growth rate of mastiffs varies greatly however, if not fed first thing in the morning, she pukes. Also, no matter how often/how much she's fed, she poops at least 3 times a day. At least! And I'm not talking baby sized bowel movements either...lol! I know there's lots of opinions on nutrition but we feed both dogs Nutromax since our old guy has always done well on it. This seems like more than a nutrition issue. Other than the issues mentioned, she's a healthy/happy/playful dog. Any thoughts?

Burping??

Trucker has been burping about 1-2 times after he eats. ( Not every meal but at least once a day) Loud burp. Is this a sign his kibble doesn't agree with him or eating too fast? No other problems just the burping.
