Understanding pedigrees...

I've been studying pedigrees for the past couple weeks. Biggest thing I've learned is the common misconception of linebreeding being considered inbreeding. Now that I understand that linebreeding is NOT inbreeding and does not create mutant, two headed puppies, I am trying to find an example of "tightly linebred". Does anyone have a pedigree they could share?

The kids loved her and my 4 yr old was so proud to tell his class all about her. She was a perfect angel until recess! Lol... I realized she's still too much puppy to be around 20 running screaming kiddos. She wanted so bad to run and play with them. It would've looked something like a bowling match. She was still a good girl she was just quivering with excitement so we excused ourselves. It was fun and the kids calmed down long enough to hug her goodbye.

SSMR - Beau and Cystinuria

Here in North Carolina Southern States Mastiff Rescue has taken in a very sweet boy named Beau. I thought everybody should hear his story.

I was contacted by Beau's owner who was honest with me from the beginning and told me Beau had Cystinuria. He said they had been feeding Beau Hill's UD in an effort to prevent him from forming stones. His family was unable to afford Beau's neuter surgery, let alone the rerouting surgery recommended to prevent an obstruction from stones. Our trustees agreed to bring Beau in and cover the expense of treatment because he has an unbelievable temperament. He loves all people, gets along with other dogs, has lovely manners and at 3 years old should have a long life ahead of him.

At Beau's first visit to the veterinarian an x-ray was done showing nineteen (19)!!!! stones in his bladder. How in the world he didn't obstruct, I have no idea. Beau has been neutered. All the stones were removed and the rerouting was completed. A few stones were sent for analysis and they were in fact cysteine stones.

The vet thinks Beau is going to need to have another surgery. His bladder is sitting quite low and he continues to form stones. The stones are settling in the bladder...not flowing through. Obstructing is not a concern, but they shouldn't be settling there.

To add to the mess, I got a phone call last night from the woman who was planning to adopt Beau. She said "my heart is breaking to tell you this, but..." "...we were in no way prepared for the amount of slobber and hair Beau would bring into our house, I mean, we have white carpet..." I only listened to her nonsense for about two minutes and then told her she would be placed on our Do Not Adopt list. So now poor Beau is looking for a home again too. (If you're a breeder and you want her name PM me.)

SSMR has now spent around $1800 on Beau. That is with the considerable discount this vet. was willing to give to rescue and we're not done. Hopefully, we will be able to get Beau on a diet that will slow down or eliminate his stone formation. I would love for this sweet boy to have a happy life.

If you're interested in making a donation, please visit our web site here.
http://www.sosmastiffrescue.org/index.php/support-ssmr/donate

Breeders, please place your puppies on contracts!!! Don't sell to families who can't even afford neuter surgery, for heaven's sake! Take your puppies back when something goes wrong no matter how old they are!!!

Rescue should not have to clean up messes like this!

I'm joining my local all breed club and want to join the MCOA as well. Getting the sponsors for my ABC was easy since I met so many members at the handling classes. But how do I get sponsors for MCOA? Is there a list of members in Oklahoma? Do I need to attend any meetings? Any help/advice is appreciated!

My singleton baby has arrived

My girl Delilah delivered her singleton baby today via c-section. We did an ultrasound about 10 days ago and saw 3-4 puppies but Delilah seems to have reabsorbed the puppies- there were 2 other empty sacs and one tiny little man. Delilah's progesterone dropped from a 2.9 yesterday evening to a 1.2 and his placenta had begun to detach. He is only 9 ounces and looks to be 3-4 days premature but so far he is doing well and is as fiesty and opinionated as can be. He is being monitored very closely and I am hoping that he will continue to thrive. I want to thank Margo of Lamars Mastiffs to allow this breeding with her stunning Jimmy J. It looks like my baby is going to be a light brindle!
