I just had "words" with a pitbull owner. I asked him is his dog was ok. He was a dark brindle boy and the owner was on a major road with no shirt walking this poor dog in with some kind of harness around his muzzle!!! I offered water and it was meant with "he's fine"...
Not only is it over 90 degrees, the surface of the road is like walking on hot coals.
The guy thought he was cool with a pitbull, but it just looked pathetic. Macho man...NOT.
Just had to vent, I know you are keeping your beasties in the A/C..it only takes a few minutes to get overheated.
hugs to all.

Aaaaargh!  Poor pup!! It was kind of you to offer some water; too bad he was too big of a jerk to accept! Non-macho man sounds more like Hamburger Helper than Prime Beef.

It is almost 100 degrees here. Our guys are only going out to potty, and get ice cubes when they come back in.

It is waaaay to hot for that! At least you tried to help. Maybe the guy will think twice in the future about bringing his dog with him... What's the temp there? Its over 100 here....

Today was over 90, then we had wicked storms with huge hail ...snow in July!
I think I'll write an editorial to our local paper and hopefully get through to some folks.
its all I can do..

It has been in the 90's here too.  It is so hard NOT walking the dogs when I get home from work.  I do two walks - the younger boys (Truman and Joey) and the older ones (Jazzy and Benjamin).  They are so excited when I get home because they know it is time for walkies...but have been disappointed when I don't get the leash for the walks.  I'm too afraid of them overheating - so I chase them around the yard with the hose...seems to be a good alternative.  Some people have dogs to "show them off" - that seems to be the case with the guy with the pitbull - more concerned about his image than the pup.  What a turd.

It seems like whenever I mention (politely) that a dog seems distressed I am met with a "mind your own business" attitude. One guy had his Bully in the back of his truck..chained. I mentioned the possibility of heat stroke and he says..oh, he's not in there long and he likes it. The dog was not happy...

Two young women left all their windows up and went into a restaurant. They saw me near their car and I told them their poor dog was really hot...again, I was polite. They basically give you an obscene gesture and some excuse.

I love my dog and would want someone to tell me if he was in jeopardy...

Dixie..you have a heart of gold and they have hearts of stone. People leave young children in cars and they say "I was gone only a minute"..well that's all it takes. What a world!!!
hugs to you..

I saw a guy put his Rottie in the back of his pick up truck at PetValu once - I stopped him and said "You're not going to leave him in the back while you're driving are you?"  He said, "Why not - he likes it?!"  I told him that my dogs like to eat rabbit crap, but I didn't let them because it isn't good for them...  He laughed and drove off with the Rottie in the back of his pick up.

Here's a picture I saw this morning of a dog's feet after his owner had walked him on a hot road. :-(
