Hello Im am new here. My cousin Kelly (Kellybird) told me about this board and I here I am. My husband And I have a 8 month old Mastiff named Madison and a 5 months old daughter Rebecca. I was very scared to get a puppy and have a baby at the same time, but it worked out great. Maddie is a great dog, v ery protective of Rebecca. They are best friends already! Ok well I have to get myslef ready for Bed. Thanks, Im excited about this board!

hi and welcome! since you have a baby, i'd strongly suggest you get "living with kids and dogs...without losing your mind" by colleen pelar from dogwise.com. it's wonderful that things are going so well now, but when your baby (the human one(grin)) starts to toddle around, everything can change. colleen's award winning book helps to keep everything in perspective from both sides, the child and the dog's, and i think everyone with kids and dogs should have it. the rest is my standard post to new owners because i think it's important :-) you might want to get "the ultimate puppy toolkit" and/or "before and after getting your puppy" by dr ian dunbar from http://www.dogwise.com. (i'm boycotting amazon because they are still selling a cockfighting magazine.) erica tortorella (whose name i drop all over(grin)) who writes the mastiff column for the akc gazette highly recommends the toolkit and anything by ian dunbar is wonderful, he is the father of puppy k and all good things for puppies. before and after used to be 2 books. the 'before' part is online for free at http://www.jamesandkenneth.com/PDFs/before_puppy.pdf both the toolkit and dunbar's combined book are full of brilliant, real dog theory ideas to prevent problems and raise a well socialized, dog with good house manners. and the most important thing i can say is to have fun with your puppy! v
