My old girl Jasmine started running a 103.5 fever yresterday and I noticed a limp. She has a very swollen area around her right front wrist Pasternak areas.checked for any kind of insect bite but clear there. I was sudden onset as she had been fine the Fay before. Any ideas.? I did start her on antibiotics and tramadol

Ask your vet for help...hope she is ok Teresa. Swelling and fever is infection and maybe antibiotics will work, but then again are they the right ones? Is is hot? again, I would not wait, but call your vet...
Good luck with her.

Good luck with her.  Keep us posted.  The heat and swelling could be explained with having twisted or something, but a temp...that's a different story altogether.  Call your vet.

Just had same thing - prelim diagnosis is bone tumor. I'll trade for septic arthritis.

We do not breed often, but we do our best to breed top quality mastiffs
with excellent pedigrees to back them up. All breedings are carefully planned to produce
the very best mastiffs, sound in both body and mind, beautiful and strong,
representing the true mastiff standard.

We fully test our dogs. We believe that a person that "just wants a pet" has a right
to own a beautiful, well bred dog that is sound and healthy
every bit as much as someone wanting a "show dog".

Erika, that was (and still kind of is) my biggest fear. I'm sorry about your girls diagnosis.  She's 8 years old and though the antibiotics seem to be helping A LOT, I'm not convinced there isn't more going on. I guess we'll see after the full round of antibiotics.

Still no answers. Blood work perfectly normal. Suspicion of septic arthritis because she is my girl that had DJD grade 3 at 2 yrs old. Her elbow was so bad he could even move it. He put her on rimadyl for 3 days and cephalexin for 7 more days.also thinking either insect bite or osteosarcoma, so if she's not better by Wednesday, she goes in for X-rays (sedated so has to stay all day) and possible biopsy. Truly hoping for marked improvement by then. Odd thing is she's actually walking fine now. Her right leg is just double the size of the left leg. She's still running 103.5 fever. He didn't want to do X-ray today because of sedation and them closing early.

At this point, it can't be rules out. She's a very sedentary girl.

sending good thoughts, septic arthritis can be deadly if left untreated.  One of my friends lost a four month old from it!

I have always worried about her with such bad elbows at such a young age and actually have been pretty impresses that she gets around as good as she does. She ate well tonight and fever is slightly lower, but the leg is swollen all the way from the toes up to her body.

Teresa,

Did you check her armpit really good?  My Buford had a similar thing happen and it turned out to be what we think was a spider bite right in the fold of his "armpit" (I know there's a better word - lol).  His leg was horribly swollen, shoulder to toes, and he had a high fever.  We checked everything out, but where it actually was.  We finally found it a couple days in.  When that thing opened up you wouldn't believe what drained out of it.

I've attached a picture of it...post opening.  We had to use a tissue granulating spray to get it to close back over.  It healed very nicely.
