Thank you dander5 and Ryan, I think their pretty spoil, but who's isn't. Love Frank on you tube and the gang down stairs eating. Cory, it is so funny when these kids are small how they lay down to eat. Ryan, how old are your kids, they look young out there playing ball and being linebackers... lol. __________________ Jeni Trana |

My name is Spike Montgomery and I was just told about this sight. I live in Homosassa Fl and have had dogs in my life, as constant companions, for over 30 years. I have just gotten my first Mastiff "Abbey" from the sosmastiffrescue and she's 14 months and weights 118. She just got her spaying and am ready to start her training. I'm hoping to convince her to ride in my kayak as we cruise the waterways of the area and take photos. I'm retired ,63, and enjoy the beauty of the forests and waterways of this area. My other companion, a irishwolf hound/mix, is trying to get Abbey to know our ways and since he's 91/2 with heart murmurs he's got a lot of training in a short time. Guess I'll have to take some other pictures for the ones I have say they exceed file limit so stay tuned |

Hi All,
We don't have a Mastiff as of yet. We're at a crossroads in trying to determine if we should get a Great Dane or a Mastiff.
Currently my husband and I have 3 dogs -
- Lennie, a HoundX that I adopted through rescue. She is our resident food thief. - Maude, a Great Dane that I purchased from a breeder. She is our resident couch warmer and my heart dog. - Ernie, a CorgiX that we adopted through rescue. He is our boy genius.
I've joined this list to help in our decision when the time comes for us to get another dog.
Looking forward to learning more and hearing all about your Mastiffs.

Hello everyone! My name is Laurel and I live on LI in a town called Setauket. I share my home with three beautiful Mastiffs ( Juggernaut 11 weeks old who is Co- Owned with Nancy Walker, Leana who is 4 years old and hopefully expecting in May, and Annie who is 9 months old), a St. Bernard named Peaches, a Bull dog LULU, and a giant Flemish Rabbit named Googa. I have two wonderful children who will be 5 and 6 on May 20th ( Morgan and Kaitlynn) and a fantastic husband who puts up with all of our malarkey! Oh his name is Todd. Allot of people ask about the name Mommamoocow. And when I tell them it is a name given to me by my husband....they are pretty shocked. ( who is their right mind lets their husband refer to them as a cow???) well here is how..... When Todd and I were getting married about 10 years ago, I was sitting on his bed going through a Victoria's secret catalog. He told me I could order anything I wanted out of there for our wedding night.....so of coarse my interest was peeked. I spent the next hour pouring over all sorts of sexy stuff...when it hit me...there it was on page 52 item B. I clutched the catalog to my chest and said...." Todd...honey...you said I could have anything right?" impatiently he said "YES...so what is it..let me see..." I said " you are sure right , Anything???" "ANYTHING.....what did you find, Laurel?" he said Any with that I laid the catalog down and said "here page 52 letter B...This is what I want- Cow Print Flannel PJ'S!!" Talk about a mood killer.....ugh! Needless to say he found it less than humorous! I did not get them for our wedding night but you bet I got them for Christmas a month later! I still have them a bit thread bare and full of holes but I cannot bring myself to part with them! And that my friends is how Mommamoocow came to be!

Hi There:
My husband, my 4-year old daughter and I live on Long Island on almost 2 acres of woods overlooking the water. We currently have a lovely year old OE Mastiff puppy "Layla". She's a Celestial mastiff and a real lap dog! Our enthusiasm for the breed began over 12 years ago with my first mastiff, Duncan. We then got another, a female adoptee - Nellie, who had serious health issues most of her life. We lost Duncan at the ripe old age of 12 in March, and Nellie followed her deepest love to the Rainbow Bridge this past Christmas.
Now, we live with our Layla, and her best friend, an Egyptian Mau kitten named Pixel. Layla is wonderful with our daughter, playing in the yard... and she has been having some fun in the show ring too.
Looking forward to my frequent visits to your board.

Sorry, I should've introduced myself before posting!
My name is Ray and Sunshine is my wife and my first Mastiff. She's 8 weeks old and I picked her up on Sunday. She's our baby and this site has become our newest source for answers on the breed and responsible ownership, so THANK YOU ALL!!!
Over the last two days Sunshine has shown us more and more of her wonderfull loving personality (she loves to cuddle, come up to us just so she can be close!!!), she's had a few accidents (mostly our fault) but she's been better than I expected on the WeeWee Pads. Did I mention we feel like new parents!

Hello All. I've been reading on this site for some time, but have never registered or posted before. I wanted to introduce myself and ask for some advice. My name is Jennifer and I live in Oklahoma with my husband, daughter, and mastiff/boxer cross, Broady. We rescued Broady last year and this week we will be going to pick up another boy. Here comes the advice part. This guy is 4 years old and has been chained outside for most of his life. What's the best way to start socializing him and working on manners, obedience, etc? Thanks so much and I'll try to post pics as soon as we get some. |

Welcome all!! There are some realy great threads pinned to the top, such a s good Ideas 101, and if you use the search engine, thier are reaaly great ideas and help for training, feeding, dog shows ect. Alot of posters start a thread with the name of thier dog or kennel, and just keep adding picts to it as thier dog grows, or you have great photos to share. Every time you add to your thread it will be bumped to the topm. Again, welcome. Tracy __________________ Ranchlands Mastiffs

Hello again all, my name is Tammy and we are the proud new owners of Abby. She is a brindle mastiff about 9 weeks old. I love her already. I am so confused on her food. She was taking Purina Pro Choice, I am not crazy about it but she is still on it until I feel comfortable in changing it. The vet said she looked great and not to change right now if she is doing well but I hate givig her something that isn't the best. I want to give her the best but also don't want to spend a fortune. Any advice? I am trying to add her picture but can't figure out how........

Hello all, I have been reading this board for years now and have learned so much over the years from you. While not new to Mastiffs I am fairly new to the show side of Mastiffs. I have meet a lot of nice people at some of the local shows in our area that have helped me so much. It's nice to have such a great place where Mastiff lovers can come together and learn and share. My wife and I, and 2 kids live in Springville, Alabama (Just North of Birmingham). We currently own 5 Mastiffs and they are a big part of our family! Anyway look forward to speaking with you about lots of issues. __________________ Chris Parker

Hello everyone. I have been "lurking" here for a couple months, and thought it was time to join and introduce myself and my family. My husband and I are owned by "Harley" our almost 3 yr. old Mastiff. My friends call me Frankie. I am hoping to someday get another puppy (maybe start showing) but we are not in a position right now to add another, even though I suffer from puppy fever.

My husband and I are first-time mastiff owners! I am 30 years old, and my little girl mastiff, Grissel, is 13 1/2 weeks. We got her as somewhat of a rescue from an unwanted, unplanned litter of nine puppies. She is a beautiful mix of fawn, silver, and very dark brown. She has a congenital defect in one of her eyes, which makes the iris cloudy and probably restricts her vision in that eye, though it certainly does not slow her down! She's a sweetheart and full of character, and successfully working through all of the normal puppy stage stuff like chewing, biting, and potty training. We will be starting with obedience training very soon, especially as she has a slight stubborn streak which will turn into a big problem when she gets to be an adult mastiff size.
We are from the Portland, Oregon area and have two other cats that are between eight and 11 years old. My husband works as a software QA analyst and I am a homemaker who also runs an online organization for women with disabilities. This is my husband's first dog, so it's been interesting watching him learn the differences between raising a cat and raising a dog!
The two pictures I have attached are of her when she was 8 weeks old and 10 weeks old. We also unknowingly got a video of her when she was six weeks old when we were visiting her, and we also made a video of her a couple days ago. The links to the videos are below as well. The guy with the long hair in the videos is my husband, who is clearly very much infatuated with our little girl.
Grissel, 6 weeks (video keeps randomly being unavailable)
Grissel, 13.5 weeks

My name is Heather and my husband and I have a mastiff addiction below is Kiara or Kiki she is the mother hen of my two human babies, Moose who is my constant reading companion, Firefly or Bug who has a very genuine turn and tries to keep Gabi in line, Gabi or Goofie Gabi who is our personality in the bunch, she is legally blond. She loves the water house and bubbles and, last but not least Kaylipso or Kalley she is our loyal old soul, she is wearing her butterfly costume that she wore in a local fun match. She did not win best rare breed : ( Although, there were no other mastifles there. LOL

We live in Southeast Kentucky. We also have a Blue and Gold Macaw and a Umbrella Cockatoo, that I call Etoile. __________________

Hi! My name is Tia. I live in New Braunfels,Tx with my b/f-Chad and my dog-son Dozer. =] I am 22 and studying for my Massage State Board exam. Chad and I currently lease a place on the river here. We have a nice yard and were considering getting Dozer a lifetime playmate. Over the past 15 years I have worked in numerous rescues and veterinary clinics. I've been a foster Mom several times including some bottle babies. =] I've always had a fascination and love for larger dogs. I've always loved Mastiffs and their dispositions. I'm here to learn LOTS and hope to adopt a loving family member when the time is right. I've always felt that they pick us.
Um, About Dozer! Dozer is an APBT, not the big/wide-legged- American Bully, just a lean running machine- APBT =] . He just turned 2 in May. I've had him since he was 6 weeks old and he grew up with my ex's dog who was a very dominant female, but made an acception for him. He spent the first year of his life with her and long story short.. I had to leave. I split them up, for my own health. He has had playdates with the neighbors Labs and occassionally we have friends stay and bring their dog. It's just not the same =[ . \ Dozer is just such a happy guy. He's always got a big smile on his face and a tail clearing the coffee table. I've never had a problem socializing him..he is an overachiever and the best friend I've ever had. Don't know what I would do without him! Any questions, just ask. I work as an internet technical support rep so I am ALWAYS on messenger if you'd like to chat. I guess I'll shut up now and post some pictures! That's the important part- right?

Hello,
My name is Brian Young. I am 36 years old, live in Southern Maryland, am married and am the father of 2 1/2 year old four week old boys. My family and I share our 18 acres with two 5 year old Labs. We live in a rural area and as my wife and children are home alone while I am at work, I am considering expanding our family by adding a Mastiff to our mix. I love my Labs dearly, but they are not what any person would consider intimidating and a dog that combines a gentle nature with natural guarding instincts is what I am looking for. We teach our children that all creatures are to be treated gently, so they are wonderful with the Labs, who are in turn great with them, but it is of paramount importance to me that the guard dog we select is good with kids.
My question, then, is whether a Mastiff would be a good addition to my family and if so, could anyone recommend a good breeder.
Thank you for your time.
Best,
Brian __________________ SoMDTrumpet |

Hi Brian and welcome - this thing you said jumped out at me and I thought what a perfect reason to want a Mastiff. They are a good working dog for guarding women and children while men are away - I do believe that has been one of their major roles thought their history and has player a role in the development of their gentle and sensitive nature. They mature rather slow though so you will need patience for their adult nature to kick in - at only 6 months old already 100 lbs they are nothing but giant puppies until 1 1/2 to 2 years usually. They are gentle dogs and good companions but like all dogs need to careful around children. If you do all your research and find a good breeder and raise the pup just right you will have a dog that you cannot believe you ever lived without :-)

Thank you for the reply Angie. You are right about dogs and children - as I said my Labs are gentle but my son has learned to raise his arms to block the inevitable tail swats and to crouch down when they are barreling about so when he gets inadvertantly knocked over he does not have far to fall
With my two kids, and two labs who act like they are perpetually puppies, I have learned the lessons of patience and am looking forward to the companionship and peace of mind a well-trained Mastiff can offer.
Thanks again,

Hello everyone! My name is Dora and I live in Michigan. I'm an author trying to finish my first novel but in the meantime I'm forced to freelance. It's actually not as bad as I make it sound. I have three dogs. A Weimaranar called Fritz, a Maltipoo named Sophie, and my newest addition is Myra, a 4 month old bullmastiff. I just brought her home today and oh boy! She's a sweetheart for sure and I was prepared to pottytrain but I wasn't expecting her to be afraid of stairs! She won't go up or down them! At nearly 50 lbs. she is a big girl to carry and I can't keep bringing her up or down the stairs. Our doggy door is located in the basement area where the dogs are able to go in and out as they please so I was planning on her using that. Funny thing is she'll jump off the couch to follow me but won't follow me down the stairs. If anyone has any advice I'd love to hear it. Meanwhile, I'm just taking the time getting to know her and I'm already in love. She has a wonderful personality and will grow up to be an awesome dog, I have no doubt. __________________ D.J. |
