Hello all,

I am Max's dad and finally got a chance to join the forum.  I am sure I will find plenty of good information here.  I promise to search the existing threads before I start a duplicate thread with the same question.

Here,HERE Kelly!  I wish Tjark would get along with our cats like that.  He likes to chase them around and drool all over them to the point we have to towel dry the cats.  The only time he is behaved with the cats is when he is totally tired. What is up with that since he has been raised with the cats since he was 12 weeks. My house is like the Tom and Jerry movie. Do they eventually out grow it and just get along?
The puppy is so cute.  How old is he now?

Max is around 14 months old.  That cat picture was taken when he was tired.  He likes to chase it (black Manx) around and slobber him up as well.  The funny thing is our 12 year old Siamese who cleans every dog she has met chases Max around and backs HIM into a corner with his tail between his legs.  She is so old she doesn't have any teeth or claws.

As for the picture of him as a puppy laying around, don't let him fool you, take a look at his eyes.  All trouble, I tell you..

Must be a mastiff trait then.  Thank goodness they tire easily so we can get a little sanity from the chasing and drool on cat.  I wish our cat would get him just once good because I think it would put a stop to all of it instead the cats runs and then it is  game on.  Thanks for the pics put a smile on my face.
Max is a big handsome boy.

My cats will not even go close to Kaboose. He chases them around like mad. It took them awhile to realize that if they jump up on things that he can't get to them. When they do that he just sits right below them and barks. They actually come out now. When we first got Kaboose we only saw the cats at night. Now they come out but as soon as Kaboose stirs they high tail it out of the room. They do stand at the door together to people watch, but that's the extent of them getting along.

hi, welcome and he's ADORABLE!!!!

this is my standard post to new owners because i think it's important :-)

you might want to get "the ultimate puppy toolkit"  and/or "before and after getting your puppy" by dr ian dunbar from http://www.dogwise.com.  (i'm boycotting amazon because they are still selling a cockfighting magazine.)

erica tortorella (whose name i drop all over(grin)) who writes the mastiff column for the akc gazette highly recommends the toolkit and anything by ian dunbar is wonderful, he is the father of puppy k and all good things for puppies.

before and after used to be 2 books.  the 'before' part is online for free at

http://www.jamesandkenneth.com/PDFs/before_puppy.pdf

both the toolkit and dunbar's combined book are full of brilliant, real dog theory ideas to prevent problems and raise a well socialized, dog with good house manners.

and the most important thing i can say is to have fun with your puppy!

Thanks.

I'll have to say that without Maria D. Max would probably be just that, a couch potato.  She has done wonders with him in the ring.  We couldn't be happier as owners.  We know we lucked into a great person when we found Maria.
