I've been lurking and haven't posted for a while...life get's in the way, but our beautifull girl Sunshine is about to turn 7 months old and she's WONDERFULL!!!our entire extended family, even our neighbors love her!!! It's hard to belive an animal can be as loving as a Mastiff can!!!
One thing has been bothering me lately...I've been reading other posts and see people writing about their 7 and 8 month old Mastiffs eating 4-8 cups of food per day and Sunshine only eats about 4 cups (on a good day)...we flavor the food (Canidae) with Chicken broth and boiled chicken (no bones) and she goes to town on it, same with cottage cheese, yogurt and broccoli (also the occasional hot dog!!). But she really stops eating after 2 to 21/2 cups per meal. She's 110 pounds and we don't want her to get overweight, (she looks good to everyone including the vet).
Lately (last 3 weeks or so) she's been getting a bit destructive (our wooden stairs are suffering from her bites and my CD collection is DOA...) we've been walking her for 45 minutes to 1hour a day (should we increase this??? ussually she sleeps till the next day after a walk) and we've had several dog play dates with friends (Rotweilers, Jack Russell, English Bulldog, Scottish Terrier) so we wonder, why the unusual destructiveness??? is it a growth stage???
Anyway, we noticed she didn't want to eat Canidae anymore, so we've switched to Eagle Pack Holistic Puppy for her this week(so far, so good!!!)
Any comments or suggestions are welcome!
PS. I'm going insane trying to upload my pictures, their too BIG!!!!...I'll work on it...

She seems plenty big. I wouldn't worry about a number (4 or 8 cups) as long as you and your vet monitor her and she never looks thin. As far as being destructive-Keep her busy, chew toys and "suck" toys. And if you can't watch her every minute try an exercise pen in the living room or kitchen. Just for those times when she might get into the stairs or cd's. When you can't watch her, not a punishment just keeping her honest! Give her a nice bone in her xpen. She'll love the treat and no guilt! She's just at that age-and she'll remain at that age for the next 10 months!
Good luck and when you figure out how to make pix smaller let me know!

Well, I hope this worked and the pictures are visible!!!...Anyways, she's been eating the Eagle Pack Holistic ok, but she still wants a topper (today she waited till my wife went in the laundry and then got a Tupperware from the table, opened it and ate the 3Lbs. of pastrami in it!!!). She was so thorough neither my wife nor I noticed until a few minutes ago, that there was an empty Tupperware container on the floor and no more pastrami in the house!!!
Sunshine is 110 pounds today, not much of a weight gain from last weeks weigh in!!!

She look great. So I would not worry about her weight. My experience is the more toppings you give the more they become finicky eaters.
Chewing is normal she is probably teething get a bunch of chew toys for her. A bone like Marge said. They can and will chew until about two years of age.
I have a chew toys that looks like a small dumb bell and it has little knobs all over it. It is tough and I have had it for three years. They love to chew on it and I dont even remember where I got it but it has been the best.
