Hello- Very new to this community and glad to be here I have owned three mastiffs; two have crossed over and my 5 month old almost did several weeks ago.  He had an intestinal blockage and the vet about had a heart attack when she pulled out a 12 inch squishy toy reptile/lizard of my son's- most expensive toy I have ever bought.....No, it did not dance.  Anyway, Chowder is at home and recovering well.  He loves to eat rocks, crayons, toys, etc.  We have to watch him every minute......He is gaining much needed weight back and he is on a new food that has more calories, fat and protein.  I will be cautious as I don't need elbow, shoulder, hip, ocd (osteochondritis something- although he has obsessive compulsive disorder.....hm.....think Prozac may work?) Well, hope  your pups and dogs stay away from things that they can't poop out

Hello,

I'm new here!
I'm a mom to two boxers, and hopefully one day, a mastiff. My husband and I are in the research stage. We would like to learn more about the breed,  to make sure we would make good mastiff parents. I would like to hang out here to ask questions, and read your stories to learn what it is like to live with a mastiff

Hello-
Just checking to see if I can post pictures; having a little difficulty.  If this works, you will see my five month old Chowder.  He is recovering well from the old 12 inch toy lizard in the intestine trick. Oh, the second picture is of him winking; just taught him this trick today.  Addition: I love all of the information on this site as it is a great way to learn; by the way- if you think your pup has big ears just take a look at Chowder's.  When he gets to trotting real fast, he looks like the flying nun

Hello,
I'm new  to the forum. Our family just adopted two Mastiff mixes from a local animal rescue group. We're gathering info about the Mastiff breed so we can be better owners of these two great dogs.
Bodhi is our male and is about 15mo old and is super submissive and quiet unsure of things at the moment. While Kharma is a female and is much more interested in what is going on around her.
We are looking forward to finding out more about these two even though they aren't purebred Mastiffs...they sure do look like them though. I am working on getting some pictures to post.

Hello All,

My name's Ben and I am the proud owner of my first mastiff named Oswin.  He just turned 10 wks and about 28 lbs.  How these dogs grow really blows me away.  This is my first mastiff, had a few pit bulls in the past but their energy level is just too much for my family.  Always wanted a mastiff and finally took the plunge.  Love the site, what a wealth of information.

Thanks,
Ben

Hello fellow Mastiff Lovers!

I have just joined the forum, after being made aware of it by one of your members, and I am looking forward to conversing with people that have the same addiction I do.     My name is Lydia, and the attached pics are of my baby girl, Sophie.   I just recently purchased Sophie, so I am very busy adjusting to the world of Mastiffs.  Right now is a rather tense time for me, as she is (supposedly ) ready to come into heat and I've got a gorgeous stud standing by.  She will be two years old this month, so we'll both be learning together on this one.  Poor kid.  My Aunt Tari (in Ohio), has bred Mastiffs for a few years now, and I'm very thankful to have her a mere phone call away.
Anyway, thanks for your time & for making this great site available!!

Hi to everyone,
Thought i had better jump in and introduce my self. I am the VERY proud new mum to BRANDY a 9wk old english mastiff girl. I am in QLD Australia and have wanted a mastiff for coming up to 20yrs now  but for one reason or another the timing has never been right.
At last all the pieces have fallen into place and it's my turn to indulge my long term desire.
Despite all the research i've done (20yrs is a long time to read and google) i have no doubt there is much i still have to learn, and i look forward to my mastiff journey.
Hopefully the pics of my lovely girl work (i am just a little bias) ..... here goes nothing.

We do not breed often, but we do our best to breed top quality mastiffs
with excellent pedigrees to back them up. All breedings are carefully planned to produce
the very best mastiffs, sound in both body and mind, beautiful and strong,
representing the true mastiff standard.

We fully test our dogs. We believe that a person that "just wants a pet" has a right
to own a beautiful, well bred dog that is sound and healthy
every bit as much as someone wanting a "show dog".

Hello, I am Nikki. I don't currently have a Mastiff but am planning to add one to my family in the future and want to learn all I can before I do.

I am a nursing student and my family and I currently live in Northeast Ohio. I graduate in December of '09 and we are moving to Jacksonville Florida then. My husband and I have 4 kids, ages 11, 10, 8, and 7, and one dog, a three year old male American Pit Bull Terrier named Bo.

Bo is a great dog. No dog aggression, people aggression or temperament problems.

We are planning to add a Mastiff to our family in the summer of 2010 at the earliest since I want to find a reputable, health testing breeder so that the family member we bring home has the best chance at a long healthy future with us. I would like to have a female because I believe that opposite sex pairs of dogs in a family tend to work best. I would love to have a pup worthy of showing as I have wanted to show dogs for a long time and Bo is an unpapered rescue.

I am hoping to learn a lot from this forum so that, between what I learn here and all of my research, I can be the best Mastiff mom I can be.

Hi, my name is Patti and I am the proud owner of a 4 month old little girl.  I named her Princess Liberty Bella.  After doing 2 years of research on Mastiffs I finally found Libby in Indiana.  She has adopted our family very well as we have her.  I couldn't picture my life without her!!  I have been reading books and forums on Mastiffs because she is my first and I am sure not my last.  I LOVE MASTIFFS

I do, however, have a few questions for you expert Mastiff owners.  I read in a Mastiff book that because of the rapidness of their growth that they need certain dog food.  I am currently feeding my dogs 'Purina Dog Chow: Complete and Balanced'.  I would like to know if this brand of dog food is ok or if there is anything better I should be feeding Libby.

Another thing that has been weighing on my mind is whether or not to breed her.  I would love for my children and I to experience this but I have never bred a dog.  I have a few years to learn but I want to make sure this is the right decision for her.  Any advice?

Greetings from Alberta, Canada!

My son & I have been the proud parents of a 9 month old girl for the past 7 months. LOL
It's still hard to believe that the 13lb ball of fluff who flew home on my lap has become a +100lb, 27" tall, furry baby rhinocerous! In all actuality, she's a sweet, adorable drool monster who'd love nothing more than to let you hold her paw so that she can mouth you in return. Our other dogs are a physically elderly GSD X & a 21m/o Lab/Coonhound X with an 'alternate' learning style. ;->

Now to what you really wanted to know... us! Right?
We live on a 1/4 acre in a small Alberta town with 3 dogs and a cat, and really... the dogs rule our life to a large extent. They come (just about) everywhere with us, live in the house alongside us and are an integral part of life. I'm a paramedic for an advanced life support ambulance service and my son is a (sometimes) studious junior high student. I grew up with dogs, and couldn't imagine my home any other way. Sure I envy my dogless friends for their untexturised walls & pristine floors/sofas, but would I trade my 4-leggers for a Martha Stewart home? Not on your life!

Here's my girl at her 1st show, having just turned 6m/o - she's done some growing since then!

Anyhow, that's us in a nutshell.....

Hello ,  My name Is Jeanie and i am from Arkansas. We just adopted our new baby from a breeder in Iowa. Our baby is a male apricot brindle mastiff.  His name is Denny ( as in Denny Crane) from my husbands favorite show Boston Legal. Denny is 11 weeks old and so beautiful and loving.  We also have a beautiful little chihuahua named  Miss Minnie Mae, as well as a kitty named Miss Kitty. Denny has been with us for 2 days now and  were in the potty training mode right now.  This is all so new and hard,  i forgot how much was involved in potty training.  We also had a Mastiff rescue whom we lost on Sept 8 of 2008.  His death was very sudden.  His name was Bronson, and he was the love of our lives.  He was a older mastiff and we were never sure of his age. But  he left a impact on our lives that will never leave us. We have a tribute to him on You Tube.  just type in  ( our baby Bronson)  if you would like to see his memorial.  In my spare time i am a adv id cross stitch er, although with a new baby i wont be stitching alot for awhile. I look forward to getting to know you all, and getting lots of tips and alot of advice.

Hi everyone! I'm Joy and I'm in Arizona. I have a 16 month old mastiff, Peabody, an 8 1/2 year old great dane, Mowgli, and a 12 1/2 year old shepherd mix, Harley. We've had great danes for over 10 years but Peabody is our first mastiff. Here's one of my favorite photos of Peabody, chewing on my mastiff slipper:

Hello and welcome to everyone.  I have posted a few questions on here, but not sure if I actually introduced myself on this page.

I specifically wanted to post a message to Loveourpets.  We also entered the Mastiff world by owning a Mastiff Mix.  When I saw the pictures of your dogs, specifically the bottom picture, I started to cry, and showed my husband who said - "Wow - that looks just like Bear!"  I will try to attach a couple of pictures for you to see.

We adopted her through an ad in the paper and did get to see both parents - the father was an English Mastiff and mother was a black lab.  It was sort of a bad part of town, and we were thrilled to take her home and give her a wonderful life.  She was by far the best dog we have ever owned - the most loving animal you could ever ask for.  We lost her the week of Thanksgiving this year to Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) at only 5 years of age.  She went downhill fast and despite our best efforts, we had to put her to sleep only 2 weeks after she was diagnised.  We have a huge hole in our hearts, but will soon be welcoming one of Linda's new puppies (Ibe X Hummer) into our home.

They will be ready on Feb. 3rd, and we are anxiously counting down the days.  Anyway, that's our story, and here are some pictures of our Bear.  Best of luck in giving your new adopted dogs the best that life has to offer.

Beth and Mike

P.S.  These were taken just a day or two before we had to put her to sleep, so she looks a little worn down (and her nails are LONG - because of the pain in her legs we weren't able to cut them for the last month or so).  These pics. really don't do her justice - she was a BEAUTIFUL girl.

Hello everyone! My name is Melissa & I am new to the site. I found it because our Mastiff had a huge bump on his toe and I wanted to see if anyone had seen anything like it before. Luckily the vet gave him some antibiotics and it is healing, so I'm not as worried as I was that it is a tumor!

We have a total of 7 babies, We have Diesel, our 1 1/2 yr old Mastiff, Daisy, Our  1 yr & 2 month Mastiff, Romeo, our 3 yr old Persian cat, Juliet, she is a 5 month old Persian and then 3 children ages 11, 9 & 6! They are a handful! LOL.

Hello everyone.  I have a 15 month old mastiff named Layla and I am Lily.  I am so lucky to have her. I fell in love with the Mastiff breed when I was 14 and at a car show with my dad and saw this little/big Neapolitan Mastiff and he was 8 weeks old and a wonderful puppy.  I proceeded to research the breed and got my Layla when i was 20.

My name is Jill and I live in Wasilla, Alaska. I was forwarded this group by my breeder at Mendeltna Mastiffs.
I own a small farm called Ashwood Farms where I am an intructor/trainer to my fellow horses and enthusiasts.
We have farm critters and love to garden and have a big fenced 2 acre yard for our 2 mastiffs.
Both my mastiffs are from Mabel at Mendeltna and I couldn't be happier. I am amazed and honored that she would allow me to have the best of her litters and I promise to do my very best to make her proud of them and me
Kate is our 20 month old Apricot female who is amazing!!! She is conformationally stunning, has a very typy Mastiff persona and is the most loyal and trustworthy dog I've ever known. She does patrol at night checking on kids, checking parimeters, you name it, she's ON IT!
Our other Mastiff is baby Enzo. He's is 10 weeks old and is going to be a monster! He also is a conformational dream (I realize babies are tricky) but as of now he is He's very sweet, very outgoing and very handsome. He will be going into the showring in June...
I decided to start into Mastiffs after my former breed just broke my heart for the last time. I raised, bred, showed and loved the Great Dane for many years before finally, the constant saddness and heartbreak of that breed did me in. We lost our Champion Sire 3 springs ago and he was and is the last Dane I think we will ever own.
Onto brighter things... We love this breed and are SOLD!!!

Hi Everyone:  I am a new member today and proud owner of Reginald, (Reggie) a 10 month old fawn Mastiff. This is our first Mastiff and we love him so much.  Recently he has been very sick, losing weight, not eating, reguritating food. Its been horrible and we have been to three vets.  When he does eat we are feeding hamburger and rice because vets thought at first that  he had gastritis. The interesting thing is I looked up a vet on-line and he suggested gas-x since Reggie has been full of gas when they did x-rays.  He is now BETTER and not vomiting.....yea!

We have an appointment Wednesday for a barium swallow to see whats causing the gas.  It may be a partial torsion or ???  Anyway, always fed good food, but vet said use  Dick Van Patten Duck and Potatoes since it few ingredients, since Reggie may have allergies. I love when i have read about it, so will try it when he is well.

Wish us luck on Wednesday. This is a special baby, like all Mastiffs I would think!  I will look through this site for more info on more info.  If anyone has had this problem, please let me know.
Thanks again.

Hi All,
I just wanted to introduce myself.  My husband and I are raising our first mastiff puppy, and we also have a 9 year old Golden Retriever.  Our mastiff is Farley, and he is 10 weeks old today.  Our boys, Kyler and Gavin, who are 4 and 18 months, are having a blast with the new addition to our family.  Here are a couple of pictures of Farley.

Thought it is about time I introduced myself and our new addition to the family. My name is Dori and our new pup is Xander (fawn) The apricot pup in the photo is Diesel my brother in law's newest family member. Both pups are litter mates. 3/4 Mastiff and 1/4 Rotti. I really debated on joining this forum since it seems like most of you Show your dogs and I have a mix, which I was not sure would be welcome on the forums. But after reading that alot of you started out with a mix breed Mastiff you would welcome Xander and myself.
Xander is 9 1/2 weeks old today and is such a little love, but at times I think we should of named him Trouble or even Chomp since he is in such a puppy teething stage at the moment. I am following the bitting thread with much interest.
I found the Forum here while searching for Joanie, I met her probably 9 years ago or so on AOL and made a webpage for her about her beautiful Mastiff boy JT who had passed away. I have yet to write to Joanie but I hope she remembers me. She had sent me a beautiful bouqet of flowers for doing the webpage for her
Anyway a bit about me. It is Jan 22 so that means it is my birthday today.
I am getting old... Ha! I have been Stay at home Mom for 20 years. I am so thankful I have been able to do this. My son is 19 and daughter is 12. Hubby well he is just older than dirt in the 20 years we have been married Xander is our 4th dog. Our first was Murphy an Australian Shepherd mix, than came Candace a Newphie, then Maggy who is 7 years old (Pembroke Welsh Corgi) who loves the new pup and scolds him whenever he is up to no good.
Oh yes and I can not forget my darling Woody who is a Congo African Grey parrot.
Looking forward to learning more about Mastiff's from all of you.
Sincerely
Dori~
