I have a call in to my vet but would like some outside advice
My bullmastiff started limping after playing about a month ago. He runs just fine and goes on walks with no prob. When he gets in to rest...he limps when he gets up. It has come and gone but now seems to be here for good and much more severe. I noticed today he had troubling using it to brace himself to go to the bathroom and couldn't reach to scratch his ear with it. LIke i said i have a call into the vet, but wanted some opinions before they do xrays and blood tests and whatever else just to tell me it a pulled muscle or typical in mastiffs
thanks

How old is your dog?  If he's still a puppy, it could be pano.  If he's older, it could be a torn (partially torn) ACL, or any number of other ailments that afflict older mastiffs.

Could be he had a partial CCL tear and it's progressed to a full tear.  I would definitely have it x-rayed.

Please note that an x-ray will not always show an ACL tear.  There are indications, but an MRI will provide definitive results.  Please let us know what the vet says.

True!!! And they also have what they call a "drawer" test that can detect an CCL problem.

I wish you the best of luck.  I take my Pyper in tomorrow for a limp that is going on 6.5 weeks. We tried a 10 day round of anti-inflamitories with no success.  I am more nervous about them sedating her for the x-rays than the findings...  Again I wish you and your mastiff the best of luck and that it is just something torn and will heal quickly.
