I'm sure there is a thread similar to this one somewhere but I'm really trying to learn the different pedigrees and lines. I'd appreciate your input as to why you chose to breed certain lines, why you stay away from certain lines (if it won't cause a feud), why some lines cross with others well and some don't.
I'm not a total newbie at pedigree reading (being an Arabian horse breeder) and know the importance of that 3rd, 4th, and even 5th generation coming in to rear it's head, ugly or not.
While looking at different Mastiff pedigrees I'm noticing Deer Run, Grenier Hall, Lazy D, Iron Hills, and other's being in quite a few lines.
Quite some time ago, I read a post, on a different forum, about Medicine Man and how great he was, yet others were saying he was okay for the time. I don't want anyone dissing anyone's dogs or lines I just want to start putting the pieces together as to why certain litters are better than others.
Am I asking to much because I don't want to step on anyone's toes. Dawn |

When I was first introduced to Mastiffs, I fell in love with the breed because of Ch Celtic Sweet Sam and Ch Sweet Wilima Gem of Jersey. Both belonged to Linda. I now have Greesons Sweet Samantha (out of Sam) she is 10 1/2 yrs old. I also have Ch Greesons Earth Angel ( out of Willie) and she is 7 yrs old. I bred Samantha and have her son Red. I love both these lines. __________________ Maureen |

Ch.Ironhills Warwagon (Dave)....dad to my Montgomery (Acornhills Ruff n' Ready) and of course his "wife" Ch. Lionsire Indigo of Pax River (Indy)If not for them there would be no "Butler" and others...Butler was a decent brindle, but not my fav. Mastiff. Gina __________________ gina anelli |

Gina, I came late to the party. I never saw any of the Lionsire dogs. Eileen told me all about them, though. She was very proud of her Lionsire roots.
I wish I was around during those days.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your responses.
What I am trying to do is search for these wonderful Mastiffs and try to put a picture pedigree together. I do the same with horses. This makes is easy to really look at the dogs and see if their phenotype stays true to their genotype. Plus, one can look at a particular Mastiff and see where their faults or positives may have come from.

I used to do the visuals too - it really helps to see what traits come from where. Now I have the pictures in my mind as I have seen most of the dogs in person.
Send me your list of names and I will send you pictures.. __________________ Linda Greeson Rice

We do not breed often, but we do our best to breed top quality mastiffs
with excellent pedigrees to back them up. All breedings are carefully planned to produce
the very best mastiffs, sound in both body and mind, beautiful and strong,
representing the true mastiff standard.
We fully test our dogs. We believe that a person that "just wants a pet" has a right
to own a beautiful, well bred dog that is sound and healthy
every bit as much as someone wanting a "show dog". |
